‘Operational Risk Management in the Financial Sector’ Intensive Training Course by BACEE and London-Risk
This training course uses a combination of prepared tuition, examples, and case studies. Most importantly it offers participants opportunities to plan such work within small working groups, providing practice in the application of the techniques and tools generating active participation. Trainers’ Biographies
Mr. Trevor Bedeman
Managing Consultant, London-Risk
Mr. Bedeman is a Partner in London-Risk, an independent consultancy based in the United Kingdom, specialising in financial services, including operational risk and compliance, and data sharing. London-Risk provide training courses in Operational Risk, including regularly in Budapest together with BACEE. London-Risk also undertake operational risk consultancy, most recently for the World Bank in Moscow. As Chairman of Insurance Database Services Limited (IDSL) he led the initial development of the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) which is now supported by 32 general insurance companies, over 96% of the UK industry. It acts against organised crime networks through advanced data sharing and intelligence techniques. He has a risk and data compliance background from Lloyds TSB, with substantial experience of many aspects of compliance, including many aspects of operational risk. He designed many aspects of LTSB’s data compliance including the customer notifications and the group level data policies. He also wrote and negotiated the Principles of Reciprocity, the rules for UK credit and related data sharing, which now has over 500 participating companies and 800m records.
Mr. Edward Sankey
Chairman of the Council, Institute of Operational Risk
Mr. Sankey is an independent consultant and expert in corporate and risk management in banks and insurance companies. Previously he led risk consulting in Marsh Europe, AEA Technology and most recently City Practitioners, a firm specialising in the banking sector. Recent assignments have been in Capital Markets, Insurance, Investment Management and full range major banks, including developing risk management policies, information and organisation, and improved processes; preparing for Basle 2 Capital Adequacy and the Pillar 2 ICAAP; improving business performance with enterprise-wide, operational and strategic risk management; enhancing major projects, acquisitions, outsourcing, reputation protection through quality risk management and training directors, managers and staff in risk management. Working in the UK, Russia, Europe and elsewhere, experience also includes major process change, and corporate development. He has a background in business management, project leadership, application of statistical analysis/modelling, planning, management seminars and workshop facilitation. Mr. Sankey is Chairman of the Council and Fellow of Institute of Operational Risk.
